The Wildlife in Focus photo contest has been held biennially in odd numbered years for more than 20 years, since 2001.
The contest offers a large cash prize purse. It is designed to help showcase the diversity of wildlife on Texas private lands and to inspire all people to enjoy wildlife and actively be involved in good wildlife management that supports diversity and sustainability.
In 2023 the prize purse was $35,000
Format of the Contest:
A photographer, or a team of 2 photographers. (professional or amateur) is paired with a participating landowner forming a partnership.
Photographs must be taken during the contest period only on the partner land. Photographs are entered by categories as described by the rules. In 2023 there were 50 categories and 2 images per category were allowed to be entered per team.
Images are judged by an experienced panel. Images are coded so that judges can not know neither the photographer or the landowner for the images. Winning images Each category are awarded cash prizes, Generally the top 5 images per category.
The winning photographs have been published in a book. These books are made available for sale through our website.
Dates and registration for the 2025 contest will be announced well in advance of the contest period, and possibly as early as April 2024. Past events have been between January – May
