Our Mission

The mission of Wildlife in Focus (WiF) is to preserve and protect the native wildlife and their habitats in Texas.

As a 501c3 non-profit organization, we strive to create an atmosphere of cooperation among businesses, private landowners, and wildlife photographers where all participants benefit while promoting the conservation and protection of wildlife and habitat.

Who Benefits?

Landowners and Photographers:

Teams of landowners and photographers compete side by side, sharing equally in significant prize money. Beyond the competition, they contribute to wildlife conservation—taking part in one of the most challenging and rewarding wildlife photo contests in the world.

Businesses:

Gain long-term positive exposure through advertising sponsorships, with their support recognized in books, exhibits, and events.

Wildlife:

Thrives as private landowners provide essential, diverse, and well-managed habitats—playing a vital role in conservation efforts across Texas.

Communities:

Become more connected to the natural world through engaging educational resources. Winning photographs are featured in books, magazines, and our traveling Benefactor’s Photo Exhibit, showcased in sponsoring businesses, museums, art centers, and special events.

About Us

What is now known as Wildlife in Focus was originally established in 2000 as the Coastal Bend Wildlife Habitat Education Program. From the beginning, our mission has been and continues to be—to raise public awareness and promote the conservation of wildlife and habitats across Texas.

We believe Wildlife in Focus is a truly unique initiative and is one worthy of your consideration and support. Texas is changing rapidly. As the population grows and shifts from rural areas to urban centers, landowners face increasing pressure to convert productive farms, ranches, and wildlife habitats into other land uses.

This urbanization threatens more than open space because it limits opportunities for future generations to experience the rich diversity of Texas wildlife and the habitats that support them. Without action, many children will grow up disconnected from the natural world that makes Texas so unique.

Our Goals

Our goal is to inspire people of all ages to connect with the outdoors, especially through wildlife experiences and photography. We want to spark curiosity and a desire to explore the natural beauty that makes Texas special.

That mission begins with our one-of-a-kind wildlife photography contest, which teams landowners with photographers to compete for prize money and recognition while promoting wildlife conservation throughout Texas.

Looking ahead, we’re expanding our efforts with new short contests, educational workshops, and events on public lands, creating even more opportunities for people to engage with nature and conservation across Texas.
